Penny & Us (Overdrive)

My desire to learn to drive started in 2008, when I was still working at Dell. Back in college, neither did I plan nor dream to have a car, but a 16-seater van so I could load my whole family in it! But as years go by, I started to like the idea of having my own car!

The thought of owning a car gives me the feel of independence and comfort. When it was still a dream, I would always picture myself driving, fetching my nieces and nephew, taking them to places where they could play, eat, and have fun. Or with my parents, buying plants and loading them in the car's trunk, with my siblings going on a night-out. Just a simple dream that will surely make great memories.

Two months ago (August 26, 2011), I started living that dream, Penny came to my life! (our lives) That would not be possible without Richard's guidance. I would not have the courage to buy one if not for him because I still don't know how to drive. It's good to know that you have someone to help and skilled enough to take care of Penny.

Here are Penny's (the ride) details/specs:

Make: Honda
Series: Civic LXI
Body Type: Sedan-4-Door
Year Model: 1996
Plate No: UKY528

Some might ask why the car is named Penny, the answer is: Penny is a character in one of my favorite sitcoms, The Big Bang Theory, the blonde who lives across the hall from Sheldon and Leonard.

Given that, I planned to enroll as a student into a driving school. But that has not happened yet. I just got my Birth Certificate from NSO-Macapagal last October and eventually got my Student Permit from LTO - Makati this November.

Richard has taught me basic driving lessons/rules, such as Clutch-Break-Gas, how and when to use them, Gears 1 & 2 (so far), drive on a straight road (stop & go - and without a lot of motorists, of course), the 2-second-distance rule (maintaining a safe following distance), some road signs and their meanings, to always stay on your lane, no swerving, be alert, cautious and get all your senses working!

I know I still have A LOT TO LEARN. I need to speed up my reflexes. And I know that I can do it, in time.
